I Met Jesus

I met Jesus
And told Him, Yes
My burden of sins,
I did confess.

Time passed by
inexorably
My “First Love” flame
Was harder to see.

MY carnal self
And worldly needs
Grow stronger daily
As the spirit recedes.

Let’s not offend
A voice intoned
As slowly I grew cold
And the Spirit moaned.

But it’s ok
It’s all good
The Jesus I formed
Told me I could.

His church became
A social club
Where nice folks meet
And share good grub.

God’s word is taught
Rather, modified
Our good friend Jesus,
I hear He died!
