Honestly admitting the meagre quantity of the records, I want nevertheless to make these three statements.
1. From any intelligent reading of the four Gospels, there arises an impression, strong and living, of someone who is head and shoulders above any other man who ever lived.
2. After translating the Gospels, I find behind these four portraits someone far greater than words could express. Not only then would I recommend the reading of the Gospels, a Gospel at a time if you can, but the use of quiet thought and reverent imagination. These records convey a deep impression of someone who is quite uniquely alive.
3. In spite of the briefness of these Gospel character sketches, we are dealing with Someone who is alive today.
