“Her husband followed her, weeping all the way. . .” 2 Samuel 3:16
John 3:16 is probably the best known Bible verse in America. And what a wonderful verse to know. It is the gospel message. One day while discussing various topics in a Bible study, two men wondered what would happen if someone went through the New Testament, comparing chapter three, verse sixteen in all the books. Here is the result of that comparison.
Matthew 3:16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him.
Mark 3:14-19 (to better understand the section) Then he appointed twelve of them and called them his apostles. They were to accompany him, and he would send them out to preach, giving them authority to cast out demons. (16)These are the twelve he chose: Simon, whom he named Peter, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, but Jesus nicknamed them Sons of Thunder, Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James, son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon, the zealot, Judas Iscariot, who later betrayed him.
Luke 3:16 John answered their questions by saying, “I baptize you with water; but someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
John 3:16 For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.
Acts 3:16 It was the power of his name that gave strength to this lame man. What you see and know was done by faith in his name; it was faith in Jesus that has made him well, as you can all see.
Romans 3:10, 16 As the Scriptures say, No one is righteous—not even one. 16 Destruction and misery always follow them.
1 Cor. 3:16 Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?
2 Cor. 3:16 Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. 16But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.
Gal. 3:16 Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ.
Eph 3:16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.
Phil. 3:16 However that may be, let us go forward according to the same rules we have followed until now.
Col. 3:16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.
2 Thess 3:16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.
1 Tim 3:16 Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in human body and vindicated by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory.
2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.
Hebrews 3:16 Who were the people who heard God’s voice and rebelled against him? All those who were led out of Egypt by Moses.
James 3:16 For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.
1 Pet 3:16 But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.
2 Pet 3:15-16 And remember, the Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him—16 speaking of these things in all of his letters. Some of his comments are hard to understand, and those who are ignorant and unstable have twisted his letters to mean something quite different, just as they do with other parts of Scripture. And this will result in their destruction.
1 John 3:16 This is how we know what love is: Christ gave his life for us. We too, then, ought to give our lives for others!
Revelation 3:16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.
As it turns out, our “three sixteen” Bible study is very comprehensive. If we use these bits and pieces of Scripture as a starting place, delving into the complete context in each case, we shall find hours of encouragement, challenge, reproof and love.. God’s Word never fails to feed the reader.
